Magnesium Sulphate and NPK for Citrus Orchards
Citrus is conventionally grouped with the crops that are sensitive to chloride in the root zone, which is why a query about magnesium sulphate for citrus is usually two questions in one: which magnesium source carries the least chloride, and which nitrogen route fits an orchard that has to watch its salt load. Both questions are answered with figures, not with a product name.
Our anhydrous magnesium sulfate states MgSO4 at 98% minimum with chloride at 0.2% maximum and water-insoluble matter at 0.10% maximum, and is the usual route where a chloride-free magnesium input is wanted. For the NPK side we supply macro-element water-soluble fertilizer at 19-19-19 + 2MgO + TE and 20-20-20 + 2MgO + TE to NY/T 1107-2020, which is fully soluble and suited to fertigated orchards.
This page is written for orchard owners, grove managers and the distributors who supply citrus regions. It states what the products contain and how they compare, and it stops short of rate advice, because chloride sensitivity varies with soil, irrigation water, rootstock and climate — and that variability is exactly why the decision belongs with your agronomist.
The problem
What this page is here to solve
Salt load that accumulates
Where chloride enters the root zone under irrigation it does not leave on its own, and an orchard fed from a chloride-based source for years can reach a point where switching source matters more than changing rate. Knowing the chloride figure of every input is the first step to controlling it.
Magnesium bought without the chloride figure
Two magnesium sources can carry similar magnesium content and very different chloride. Our anhydrous magnesium sulfate states both — MgSO4 at 98% minimum and chloride at 0.2% maximum — so the magnesium decision can be made against a number rather than against a trade name.
Nitrogen routes that assume one product fits all
Not every block in an orchard behaves the same way, and a programme that pools all its nitrogen into one product can be expensive where half the blocks need a different source. Having a fully soluble NPK grade available alongside a chloride-free magnesium input lets the programme be adjusted block by block.
Advice that goes further than the data
A supplier's web page is not a soil laboratory. Crop sensitivity to chloride varies with soil, water, rootstock and climate, and a general list printed by a supplier is a prompt to ask the question, not an answer to it. We state what our products contain and leave the agronomic call where it belongs.
Recommended configuration
Confirmed products for a citrus orchard
The table shows the confirmed lines this page is built on. Which route suits a given block depends on your soil, water and rootstock, and that is your agronomist's decision.
| Product | Confirmed grade & figures | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Anhydrous magnesium sulfate | MgSO4 ≥ 98% · chloride ≤ 0.2% · water-insoluble matter ≤ 0.10% | Chloride-free magnesium input for orchards managing salt load |
| Macro-element water-soluble fertilizer | 19-19-19 + 2MgO + TE · total nutrients ≥ 57% · water-insoluble matter ≤ 1% · NY/T 1107-2020 | Fully soluble balanced grade for fertigated orchards |
| Macro-element water-soluble fertilizer | 20-20-20 + 2MgO + TE · total nutrients ≥ 60% | Higher-nutrient alternative in the same system |
| Packing | 25 kg or 50 kg PP woven bags with PE liner · 1000 kg FIBC with PE liner | Bags for block-level mixing; jumbo bags for central stores |
Specifications shown are indicative; the controlling values are those in the technical data sheet (TDS) and the batch certificate of analysis issued for your order.
Why work with us
Written into the quotation, not into an advert
For a decision about salt load, the useful supplier is the one who states figures and then stops talking. These are the points we put in writing.
- Chloride stated with the magnesium grade, so a magnesium input can be chosen on data
- Certificate of analysis per batch, so figures behind a programme can be checked shipment by shipment
- A fully soluble NPK route for orchards that fertigate, in two confirmed grades
- Technical data sheet and safety data sheet issued before you commit
- Packing and loading plan agreed in writing for 20' and 40' containers
- We stop where our data stops: crop-specific rate advice is your agronomist's call
FAQ
Questions buyers ask about this
- Which magnesium product do you supply for citrus?
- Anhydrous magnesium sulfate at 98% minimum MgSO4, with chloride at 0.2% maximum and water-insoluble matter at 0.10% maximum. The chloride figure is stated because it is the property that matters most where citrus is grown, and it means the magnesium input can be planned without an unstated salt load.
- Is citrus sensitive to chloride?
- Citrus is conventionally grouped with the crops treated as chloride-sensitive, alongside crops such as tobacco, potato and sweet potato, though the degree of sensitivity varies with soil, irrigation water, rootstock and climate. That variability is why we state figures rather than publish a rate, and why the decision belongs with your own agronomist.
- Do you supply a chloride-free nitrogen route?
- We supply macro-element water-soluble fertilizer at 19-19-19 and 20-20-20 + 2MgO + TE to NY/T 1107-2020, which is fully soluble and suited to fertigated orchards. Whether it fits a given block, and how it sits alongside the rest of the programme, is a question for your agronomist.
- Do you give application rates for citrus?
- No. Rates depend on tree age, soil type, irrigation water and the rest of the programme, and they are set by your agronomist or extension service. We state composition, packing and the figures that let a programme be planned.
- How do the documents and clearance work?
- We issue commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, batch certificate of analysis, technical data sheet and safety data sheet as one set. Registration and customs clearance are handled by the importer or its local agent, supported by the technical file we provide.
